Yesterday I got my sulcata tortioses in the mail. I purchased them from backwatereptiles.com. They are little hatchlings only about a couple weeks old. They are about an inch and 1/2 long. They have a whitish tan colored shells and their shell has armor like plating on the top that portrudes out of the shell. One is a female and one is a male. I can only infer which one is the male and which is the female due to them being so small. I know how to tell a male tortoise from a female tortoise but, I can't really see their tail to know. So, I will take them to the reptile room on blackstone to have them checked.
They have another cool feature these tortoises grow to be the third largest in the world measuring for a male 3ft long and weigh up to 200 lbs! They have a nick name the spurred tortoise because they have sharp pointy spurs on their sides of their shells. This is to stop predators from pulling them out of their burrows. I still need names but they are cool little tortoises. Down below is an image of a baby sulcata but not mine.
